ZDHC level 3
ZDHC’s Roadmap to Zero Programme guides the fashion industry in eliminating harmful chemicals from its global supply chain, laying the foundations for a more sustainable production that protects workers, consumers and the environment.
Codyeco, as a company that produces chemical substances for leather and as part of Royal Smit & Zoon (which has been contributing to the programme since 2018), is an active protagonist in the development of the different phases of the roadmap.
Codyeco has successfully renewed the ZDHC Level 3 certification – the highest level for this certification – once again demonstrating that the products it manufactures meet all the requirements of the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme. A significant step for the company, which maintains a central role in Italy and in the world in promoting sustainability in the chemical sector for leather. The ZDHC Level 3 certification has been obtained for all Codyeco branded products made at the three production sites, for a total of about 650 items – which makes Codyeco the company with the largest portfolio of products certified in this area in Italy.
Achieving these results is a satisfaction that pays off every single job at Codyeco, offering the drive to achieve further goals. The production path, driven by quality, value and sustainability, continues towards the objectives to be achieved by 2025, as always alongside the parent company Royal Smit & Zoon.
Four impactful themes
EcoVadis is a globally recognized methodology that evaluates the sustainability performance of over 75,000 organizations across a series of criteria grouped into four categories: “Environment”, “Labour and Human Rights”, “Ethics” and “Sustainable Sourcing”. These evidence-based assessments are refined into easy-to-read scorecards, which provide zero to one hundred (0-100) scores and medals (bronze, silver, gold, platinum). Royal Smit & Zoon achieved particularly high scores in the areas of Environment, Working Practices and Ethics.
Sustainable sourcing is a key area for Royal Smit & Zoon as it raises the bar across the entire supply chain and offers further assurance to customers and stakeholders, such that their expectations are met by all.
Codyeco, as a subsidiary of Royal Smit&Zoon, considers transparency in the leather value chain crucial to driving significant improvements. With the ESG report we wish to highlight our commitment to identifying challenges and outlining our future plans in terms of environmental, social and governance sustainability.
ESG reporting is a key tool in our communication with stakeholders, which include employees, suppliers, non-governmental organizations, leather goods manufacturers and fashion brands.
