SECOND MONITORING VISIT BY NEEMO
On January 30, 2018 the second monitoring visit by the external monitor, Cristina Rabozzi, of the NEEMO Monitoring team took place in Santa Croce Sull'Arno (PI).
All project beneficiaries COYECO, ILSA GROUP, UNIVERSITY OF VENICE, DERCOSA and INPELSA attended the event.
The main issues and updates of LIFE BIOPOL project were showed and the most important aspects were discussed during the visit. An in-depth technical review of every project activity was performed, as well as a financial review of the costs charged to the project. The event was an opportunity to show to the external monitor the prefabricated building which will host the new prototype plant able to produce biopolymers in industrial scale.
The meeting was very fruitful and allowed to consolidate the collaboration between beneficiaries, monitoring team and the European Commission.
ILSA SUPPORTS THE BIOTECH AT SCHOOL EVENT
Last December, in the main hall of the Galileo Galilei Institute of Arzignano, an event took place presenting the association developed between Ilsa and the Galilei Institute. The collaboration with the Galilei Institute of Arzignano is not only explained by proximity, social duty, or course training, but was also created to concretely experiment with a new multidisciplinary method of analysing Ilsa products. A reference to Ilsa's research projects, such as LIFE Biopol, with its highly innovative character and with the challenging objective of creating green biopolymers for the tanning processes - starting from the reuse of plant and animal biomasses, otherwise destined for landfill - was not lacking.
ILSA ATTENDED THE III BIOSTIMULANTS WORLD CONGRESS
Ilsa participated in the third World Congress on Biostimulants that was held in Miami last November. Its booth a focus on cutting-edge green research was not missing either due to the presentation of the LIFE BIOPOL project, which aims to produce green biopolymers for the tanning industry. The LIFE BIOPOL project is due to end in the middle of 2019. Thanks to the Ilsa's intervention during the first phase, which was recently concluded, plant biomasses (legumes, cereals, cane, and sugar beet) and animal biomasses have been identified - these are suitable for the synthesis of biopolymers. Pilot tests of enzymatic hydrolysis on soya and corn are conducted, choosing enzymes in relation to their activity, applicability, and availability in the market. Therefore, there was great interest in Miami on the alternative use of plant biomass for a highly sustainable chemical processes in the tanning industry.
LIFE BIOPOL ATTENDED THE VENETONIGHT 2017
Venetonight, the Night of Researchers in Veneto, is an event associated with the European Researchers' Night, and it is aimed to public of all ages. The European Researchers' Night is an initiative promoted by the European Commission that since 2005 has brought researchers together with citizies in different European cities on the same date with the aim of bringing visitors closer to the research world and opening one communication and awareness space with public.
On 29 September 2017 the University of Venice took part in the event by showing the LIFE BIOPOL project as an example of a sustainable strategy for enhancing the industrial by-products recover and increasing circular economies.
LIFE BIOPOL ATTENDED ACLE FAIR IN SHANGHAI
All China Leather Exhibition (ACLE, also known as Shanghai Leather Fair) is the most important international leather fair in China. Organized by China Leather Industry Association (CLIA) and APLF Limited, ACLE is the premier event for international companies seeking opportunities in Asiatic and Chinese huge leather markets.
LIFE BIOPOL has attended the event through the project coordinator Codyeco.
The fair allowed the project presentation to large number of stakeholders, showing the environmental issues that support BIOPOL activities and the innovation of new biopolymers.
NOTICE BOARD LIFE BIOPOL
In accordance with the dissemination plan, LIFE BIOPOL Notice Boards have been set-up at all partners’premises. Through attractive yet simple diagrams and pictures, LIFE BIOPOL Notice Board allow stakeholders to understand at a glance what the project is about. LIFE BIOPOL Notice Board is available for download here.
PRESENTATION OF LIFE BIOPOL AT SIMAC TANNING TECH 2017
Simac Tanning Tech is the international event with the most qualified offer of machinery and technologies for the footwear, leather goods and tanning industries, taking place in Milan, concurrently with Lineapelle from 21th to 23th February 2017.
Active participation of Codyeco to the event has enabled to introduce tanning stakeholders to Life Biopol and the promising innovations which aims to make in tanning sector. Fair visitors have appeared very interested to the circular economy carrying out in the project and the reduction of environmental impact of new biopolymers.
LIFE BIOPOL ATTEND XXXIV IULTCS CONGRESS
The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies has the task to encourage and develop the interchange of knowledge and experience between leather technologists and chemists worldwide by increasing the collaboration between member societies.
LIFE BIOPOL attended the XXXIV IULTCS Congress, held in Chennai (India) from 5th to 8th February 2017, showing project results concerning the possibility to replace traditional re-tanning and fatliquoring auxiliars using innovative and eco-friendly biopolymers.
FIRST MONITORING VISIT BY NEEMO
On 16 January 2017, the external monitor of NEEMO agency, Cristina Rabozzi, assigned by the European Commission to follow-up LIFE projects, attended the first monitoring meeting with LIFE BIOPOL partners Codyeco S.p.A., ILSA Group and the University of Venice “Cà Foscari”, held at Codyeco’s headquarters in Santa Croce sull’Arno (PI).
Main implementations and updates of the LIFE BIOPOL project were shared and the most important aspects were discussed amongst participant during the visit. There was a technical review of the activities carried out in every action, particularly regarding Actions B.1 (“Market survey and chemical analysis on animal and vegetable biomasses, raw materials for Biopolymers production”) and B.2 (“Biopolymers synthesis in pilot plant and their application in leather making lab test”); furthermore, a financial review of costs incurred and budget costs for the project was performed.
The monitoring visit was very fruitful and allowed to establish a good collaboration between the project beneficiaries, the monitoring team and the European Commission.
Meeting EASME LIFE15 Projects
On 7 October 2016, members of Codyeco’s project team attended the “Kick-Off Meeting for LIFE15 projects” held in Brussels at the EU, Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) premises.
The meeting aimed in particular to discuss relevant policy topics, such as LIFE Programme rules, the interaction with EASME and the role of the external monitoring team in project implementation, financial and technical issues, project reporting, as well as dissemination and communication matters. A short overview of LIFE BIOPOL project was presented, focused on its background, objectives, impacts and policy implication.
The Kick-Off Meeting represented also a great chance to get in touch with other LIFE15 participating projects sharing common priority areas.
